Reflecting the “Make America Healthy Again” movement’s focus on diet, more than 50 medical schools have agreed to update their approaches to nutrition education at the request of the Trump administration.
MAHA leaders said the agreement announced at Thursday’s event demonstrates their ability to find common ground with health care organizations to combat chronic diseases, even amid major conflicts over issues such as vaccine policy.
In a conference call prior to the event, agency leaders said schools agreed to three specific actions:
- Conducted a “comprehensive curriculum evaluation” to understand the amount of nutrition education currently provided in schools
- Designate “teacher champions” to promote nutrition education
- Create a public landing page with your school’s plan to receive 40 hours of nutrition education or equivalent starting in fall 2026.
“We are actively looking for areas of common agreement to take advantage of this moment of political momentum in MAHA and do something truly blameless,” one official said.
