WASHINGTON — A motivational coach, a venture capitalist who worked with the son of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and a number of health care executives with businesses in values-based care, mental health, primary care and more are tasked with advising federal officials on how to improve and modernize the health care system.

Members of the new advisory group, called the Health Care Advisory Council, were named Thursday by President Kennedy and Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Kennedy said in a video announcement that officials reviewed more than 400 candidates and selected 18 who will advance Kennedy’s “Make America Healthier” agenda by developing policies that address chronic disease, reduce administrative burdens and strengthen care for vulnerable populations.

“Their insights will help us reduce costs, eliminate red tape, improve quality of care, keep programs flexible and refocus care on the people we should serve: patients,” Oz said.
