Waystar continues to rapidly build new generative AI capabilities and advanced automation to address revenue cycle management workflows. The company is now using AI and automation to account for provider revenue lost through payer payment adjustments, or so-called “recaptures.” It is estimated that recoup (payments already received and recorded as revenue, but only recovered by insurance companies) costs healthcare providers more than $1.6 billion each month. Healthcare providers are also facing an increase in claim denials, with one report finding that providers lost more than $48 billion in net revenue in 2025 due to final denials and uncollected patient liability…
The smaller the social network, the greater the loneliness experienced by depressed patients.
A study in Germany found that people who reported higher levels of loneliness tended to have fewer social relationships. This association was present in both depressed and non-depressed individuals, but the correlation was significantly stronger in depressed individuals. The paper was published in BMC Psychiatry. Loneliness is a feeling of sadness or distress that occurs when a person feels socially or emotionally disconnected. It is not the same as simply being alone because a person can be alone without feeling lonely. People can feel lonely even when they are surrounded by others. Loneliness usually reflects a gap between the relationships…
The Antarctic Circumpolar Current carries more than 100 times the total flow of all the world’s rivers combined. It circles Antarctica unobstructed by land and is one of the most important drivers of the global climate system. New research published in journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Find out when and how this huge flow first occurred. The results of this study revealed that simply opening a maritime gateway between Antarctica, South America and Australia is not enough to create a gateway. Approximately 34 million years ago, Earth underwent dramatic changes during the transition to the Oligocene. It…
Long federal permitting timelines are putting clean energy projects at risk due to high system costs and delays, prompting developers to restructure their developments to avoid the process altogether, according to research from clean energy financing platform Crux. The new findings, released by Klux on Tuesday and shared exclusively with Politico, come as a bipartisan group of lawmakers pursue comprehensive permitting reform legislation and as the Trump administration enacts new bureaucratic hurdles for permitting solar and wind power. Another factor behind this is the rapid increase in electricity demand due to the growth of data centers, the promotion of expanded…
Cholera is a dangerous bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and can be fatal if untreated, but it can be significantly reduced through diet. A new study from the University of California, Riverside suggests that consuming more protein may help limit the ability of infectious diseases to take hold in the body. The study found that a diet rich in casein, the main protein found in milk and cheese, and wheat gluten significantly reduced the amount of Vibrio cholerae colonizing the intestines. “I wasn’t surprised that diet could affect the health of people infected with bacteria, but I was surprised…
Social media analysis links polarized political language and distorted thought patterns
As political polarization deepens in the United States, the language people use to discuss politics online increasingly reflects an exaggerated black-and-white mindset. A recent analysis of millions of social media posts found that indicators of mental distortion, along with political extremism, increased between the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. This study communication psychologyhighlighting the growing overlap between extreme ideological views and the rigid thinking patterns often treated in psychotherapy. Psychologists use the term cognitive distortion to describe thought patterns in which “individuals think about themselves, their future, and the world in inaccurate and overly negative ways.” These habits include overgeneralizing,…
Modern electronics power everything from smartphones to satellites, but they have significant limitations. heat. Most devices begin to fail when temperatures exceed about 200 degrees. For decades, this insulation layer has been one of the most difficult challenges in engineering. Researchers at the University of Southern California now believe they have found a way to overcome that limit. According to a study published on March 26, 2026. sciencea team led by Joshua Yang, the Ming Hsieh and Arthur B. Freeman Professors in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC School of Advanced Computing School of Electrical and Computer…
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego report that a week-long program that combines meditation with other mind-body techniques can quickly produce measurable changes in both brain activity and blood biology. The study found that these habits activate natural pathways involved in brain flexibility, metabolism, immune function, and pain relief. Published in communication biologythis finding provides new evidence that spiritual practices can have a significant impact on physical health. Meditation and similar approaches have been used for thousands of years to support well-being, but scientists have struggled to explain exactly how they affect the body. This new study is…
(Editor’s note: This story contains images of dead cows that some people may find disturbing.) The British Columbia government has recommended fines for those responsible for the deaths of more than a dozen cows last fall, but the Ministry of Environment and Parks has not said exactly who investigators believe is responsible for poisoning at least 13 cows in the province’s interior. Announcements, events, and more from Tyee and select partners New Firehole production center for counterfeit Indigenous art Drew Hayden Taylor’s latest play puts questions of identity and authenticity center stage. The Tyee is hiring its next editor-in-chief Founding…
Life cannot form on Earth unless certain chemical elements are available in sufficient quantities. Two of the most important are phosphorus and nitrogen. Phosphorus helps build DNA and RNA, which store and transmit genetic information, and also plays an important role in how cells manage energy. Nitrogen is a major part of proteins and is essential for building cells and helping them function. Without sufficient phosphorus and nitrogen, life cannot emerge from inanimate matter. The new study, led by Craig Walton, a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for the Origin and Spread of Life at ETH Zurich, and Maria Schönbechler,…
