Hidden Federal Alcohol Report
A federally commissioned study on the health effects of alcohol was published today in an independent journal. The study, which ultimately found that even low levels of alcohol consumption can increase the risk of disease, was initiated as part of an update to the U.S. dietary guidelines. However, the study was controversial, with some lawmakers, along with alcohol industry trade groups, arguing that the scientists were biased against alcohol and that their conclusions had harsh implications.
