WASHINGTON — The Trump administration’s nominee to lead an agency focused on public health disasters came under fire for past anti-vaccine comments during her confirmation hearing last week, before her confirmation vote was postponed minutes before it was scheduled to take place amid a lack of support.
Sean Kaufman, the nominee for assistant secretary for preparedness and response (ASPR), faced tough questioning at a hearing last week after STAT reported that he had made numerous comments questioning the safety of vaccines.
The Senate Health Committee approved his nomination and was scheduled to vote to send it to the full Senate Thursday morning, along with Erica Schwartz, who is nominated to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
