President Trump signs AI Cybersecurity Executive Order

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday aimed at strengthening AI-enabled cybersecurity for government systems. This order puts in place a framework for voluntary testing of frontier artificial intelligence models with advanced cyber capabilities.

The order requires AI companies to voluntarily participate in a benchmarking process to assess a model’s “advanced cyber capabilities” and determine whether it should be considered a “covered frontier model.”

The order, titled “Advancing Innovation and Security in Advanced Artificial Intelligence,” gives agencies 30 to 60 days to pursue challenges. As it relates to health care, the order extends protections to local hospitals and other critical infrastructure.

For rural hospitals, the Secretary of Homeland Security has 30 days to facilitate access to cybersecurity tools and services.

“Advanced AI capabilities not only strengthen the nation, but also introduce new national security considerations that require coordinated action across executive branches, agencies, and constituent elements,” the order reads. “As these capabilities evolve, my administration will continue to work closely with industry to ensure the best and safest technology is rapidly deployed to combat all threats to our country.”

Health Catalyst to sell Vitalware business for $147 million

Health Catalyst has signed a definitive agreement to sell its mid-revenue cycle business, Vitalware, to Med-Metrix for $147 million in aggregate cash.

The sale will allow Health Catalyst to reduce non-core assets, strengthen its focus on core technologies and drive AI-driven improvements in health systems across cost, clinical and consumer performance, the company said in a press release.

Health Catalyst expects to fully repay and close its $160 million senior secured term loan with net proceeds and cash reserves, which Health Catalyst expects will strengthen its balance sheet and provide financial flexibility.

“This is a major step forward for Health Catalyst. We are focused on the areas we believe in most deeply and will position our capital structure to support our long-term strategy. Vitalware is a great business and we are pleased to have found a partner in Medmetrics who is well-positioned to take it forward,” Health Catalyst CEO Ben Albert said in a statement.

Founded in 2011 and acquired by Health Catalyst in 2020, Vitalware provides software for health systems’ financial operations, a category distinct from the clinical and operational improvement efforts that are core to Health Catalyst’s strategy. Vitalware had revenues of approximately $37 million in fiscal year 2025.

Med-Metrix is a technology-enabled revenue cycle management company serving provider organizations. The company said in a press release that Vitalware’s platform and domain expertise is expected to enhance mid-revenue cycle services, improve rate capture and coding accuracy, and drive measurable improvements in net revenue for Med-Metrix customers.

The transaction strengthens Med-Metrix’s technology-powered revenue cycle platform and supports its strategy of combining operator-led services with scalable software solutions. Vitalware’s management and employees will be integrated into Med-Metrix’s operations following the acquisition.

“Vitalware represents a natural extension of our platform,” Rob Wright, co-president of Med-Metrix, said in a statement. “By integrating their leading software capabilities, we will enable healthcare providers to improve reimbursement accuracy, manage compliance risk, and maximize the value of the care they provide.”

The transaction is expected to close in 2026, subject to the satisfaction of certain specified closing conditions, including the expiration or termination of regulatory waiting periods.

Vida Health expands access to nutritious food with Instacart partners

Vida Health, a virtual cardiometabolic provider, has partnered with Instacart to expand access to nutritious foods for Vida members nationwide.

This partnership is supported by Instacart Health Fresh Funds, which are categorical grocery grants. Its goal is to bridge the gap between health advice and healthy food for its members by connecting individuals to Instacart with “funds that enable a practical and accessible path to action on Vida’s nutritional advice.”

Both companies say this partnership is the beginning of a long-term cooperation.

“Building healthier habits requires more than information alone; it requires thoughtful, culturally appropriate guidance and access to delicious food,” Amy Mashulin, chief clinical officer and director of member services, said in a statement. “By partnering with Instacart, the guidance provided by nutritionists and coaches will be more immediately actionable for our members when shopping for groceries, making it easier for people to make changes that impact their lives.”

AI tools top patient trust when looking for a new provider: rater 8

Patients looking for a new healthcare provider are increasingly influenced by AI in their choices, new research from rater8 reveals.

36% of respondents cited AI tools as influencing their choice of provider, 34% cited Google and 32% cited clinician recommendations.

Researchers surveyed approximately 1,000 adults across the United States for the 2026 Patient Selection Report. Other key findings include:

    • 55% of respondents left their medical practice based on online content, an increase of 15% between 2025 and 2026.
    • 39% of respondents cited AI tools as the biggest factor in their digital impact when switching providers in the past year
    • 60% of respondents encountered inaccurate provider information from AI, but 60% said they trusted the AI summary without further verification
    • 75% of respondents would not book with a provider rated 4 stars or lower on a review website.

“Patients demand higher standards from their healthcare providers than any other company, and that oversight begins long before a patient walks through the door,” Evan Steele, founder and CEO of rater8, said in a statement. “Trusted clinics don’t just provide great care; they display accurately, respond visibly to reviews, and rank well everywhere patients search.”

Shriners Children and ShiftMed partner to expand access to specialized pediatric care

ShiftMed, an AI-powered healthcare workforce platform, and Shriners Children’s on Tuesday announced a partnership to expand on-demand support, strengthen workforce stability and ensure access to quality care.

Through this partnership, the health systems will use ShiftMed’s platform to build “dedicated community float pools” across their locations, the organizations said in the announcement.

“As a leading pediatric subspecialty health system, our priority is to provide excellent, specialized care to every child, when and where they need it,” Beverly Bokovitz, chief nursing officer at Shriners Children’s, said in a statement. “Partnering with ShiftMed to establish a dedicated community float pool will enhance our ability to adapt nimbly and accurately to changing patient volumes. By having highly skilled clinicians on demand, we will expand access and strengthen our presence in the communities we serve, ensuring children and families receive consistent, high-quality care without compromise.”

HSCC unveils AI cybersecurity governance framework

The Health Sector Coordination Council (HSCC) Cybersecurity Working Group has published a guide to help healthcare organizations establish a cybersecurity framework when implementing AI solutions.

The 87-page guide (PDF) addresses the “unique cybersecurity and privacy challenges” of deploying AI in healthcare organizations, including protecting against hostile threats, ensuring data privacy and integrity, and securing the AI supply chain.

John Riggi, national advisor for cybersecurity and risk at the American Hospital Association (AHA), said in a statement that the guide is a “must read” for all organizations, vendors and suppliers.

“The secure-by-design and implementation recommendations provided in this guide will help reduce unintended cybersecurity risks and impacts from the use of AI in healthcare and prevent hostile exploitation of AI-related technical flaws,” Riggi said. “Mitigating AI cybersecurity risks is part of cyber safety, and cyber safety is patient safety.”
