Healthcare platform Fullspan Health has deployed a conversational artificial intelligence agent that can answer consumers’ health-related inquiries and connect them with healthcare providers.
The tool, called Healthline AI, allows patients to explore medically reviewed health information and connect them with resources related to their health questions. It leverages only Fullspan’s medically reviewed assets, including Healthline, Healthgrades, Medical News Today, and Psych Central.
Berkeley Bethune, vice president of relationship marketing at Fullspan Health, said in an emailed statement to Fierce Healthcare that viewers don’t just want to read about their health, they want to take control of it.
“What makes Healthline AI fundamentally different is that it is based on medically vetted content and designed around results, not just answers,” said Bethune. “Most AI experiences stop at information. We built Healthline AI to help people move from confusion to confidence – whether that means understanding a condition, finding care, considering a lifestyle change, or knowing the next step to take.”
Healthline AI currently has content on type 2 diabetes and plans to expand to other diseases. Fullspan said the agent will scale across its entire audience of 63 million monthly unique users.
The announcement comes as consumers increasingly turn to publicly available AI chatbots to obtain health information. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT has more than 800 million regular users, or 1 in 4 people, who send healthcare prompts every week. According to a report from OpenAI, more than 40 million people use ChatGPT every day for medical questions.
According to the March Rock Health Survey, 32% of respondents use chatbots to find answers to health-related questions, up from 16% in 2024.
Additionally, Healthline’s consumer survey found that 90% of respondents were interested in conversational health experiences, and nearly 70% said they trusted them more than ChatGPT, according to the announcement.
Christine Maguire, FullSpan Health vice president and chief business officer, told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement that the organization is “proud to be at the forefront of the convergence of trusted health information and medical technology, ushering in a new era in health marketing and media.”
“For pharmaceutical and health marketers, the challenge in the AI era is to balance innovation with safety, reliability and compliance,” Maguire said. “Healthline AI was built specifically to resolve that tension. It delivers a conversational experience based on medically reviewed content, a privacy-first architecture, and healthcare-specific guardrails that don’t exist in general-purpose AI environments.”
