    Included with every Gastrolyzer® Series order, Bedfont® Scientific Limited provides practical resources designed to support and simplify hydrogen and methane breath testing (HMBT). One such resource was the Interpretation Wheel, which provided clinicians with a quick reference for interpreting Gastrolyzer® results until December 2025. This resource has evolved into a clear A5 interpretation chart.

    Why update?

    As part of Bedfont®’s commitment to providing accurate, evidence-based clinical guidance, interpretation resources have been updated to A5 charts to provide clear, concise, and practical reference for immediate use during testing and reporting.

    The new format includes sample collection tips from the Basic Guide to Hydrogen and Methane Breath Testing. A book by Dr Jafar Jafari, Head of Upper Gastrointestinal Physiology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and member of Bedfont’s Medical Advisory Board.

    The new resource is also consistent with the North American Consensus on HMBT.

    What is the North American consensus on HMBT?

    The North American Consensus on HMBT is a set of guidelines developed by a panel of North American gastroenterology and breath testing experts. These address real-world variability and improve the consistency, accuracy, and clinical relevance of breath test results.

    Previously, the way breath tests were conducted varied widely from clinic to clinic, which could lead to problems such as:

    • inconsistent interpretation of results;
    • Confusion regarding cut-off values,
    • Reduced confidence in clinical decision making.

    The North American Consensus provides clear, agreed-upon definitions and thresholds that help ensure that results are interpreted in line with recognized best practices.

    Why clarity is important in interpretive tools

    Bedfont® understands that testing clinics are often under time pressure and clear, concise and simple interpretive resources are essential. That’s why its new interpretive resources are provided in an easy-to-read A5 chart format.

    The latest Gastrolyzer® Interpretation Charts are designed to help healthcare professionals interpret with confidence and quickly by following widely recognized consensus guidance and prioritizing clarity.
