Recent research has revealed how specific pubertal hormones are related to the physical structure and functional wiring of the female adolescent brain. The findings suggest that hormones such as estradiol and testosterone are associated with different brain regions that support memory, emotion, and spatial cognition. This study was published in the journal human brain mapping. Adolescence is a period of rapid biological and emotional changes primarily caused by puberty. During this period, the brain undergoes significant development, and scientists believe this may be influenced by increased hormone levels. These changes coincide with an increased risk of mental health problems such…

NASA is developing powerful new computer chips designed to dramatically improve the intelligence and performance of future spacecraft. Through commercial partnerships, the project is developing advanced processing technologies that will allow spacecraft to operate more independently during missions far from Earth. NASA’s High Performance Spaceflight Computing Project focuses on improving the computing power of spacecraft used in space exploration. Current missions rely on older processors because they are durable enough to withstand the extreme conditions of space. These chips are reliable, but lack the performance needed for more advanced missions. The agency says newer, much more powerful processors are essential…

A new study presented at this year’s European Congress on Obesity (12-15 May) in Istanbul, Turkey, showed that the use of a new GLP-1 class of obesity drugs in asthma patients was associated with a 26% reduction in the number of asthma exacerbations and a 14% reduction in the use of asthma inhaled painkillers. This study was conducted by Simon Høj and Dr. Kjell Erik Julius Håkansson from Copenhagen University Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are currently widely used in the treatment of overweight, obesity, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with increasing evidence demonstrating…
An analysis of data collected by a pedestrian tracking system at Eindhoven Central Station in the Netherlands found that after people get off a train, they tend to follow the same walking path as the person in front of them. This happens even if you don’t know the person or if such a choice increases your travel time. This research was published in the *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences*. When walking through crowded spaces such as busy streets, train and bus stops, airports, and places where large groups of people gather, people typically try to reach their destination…
When President Donald Trump announced his plan to impose 100% tariffs on patented medicines and ingredients imported into the United States, it included a provision that would allow drug companies that have not agreed to most-favored-nation (MFN) pricing agreements but are in the process of moving manufacturing to the United States to apply for a reduced rate of duty. The Commerce Department released a document Wednesday explaining that to secure the 20% exemption, companies must disclose extensive information about their investments, production plans and compliance efforts. Companies must submit onshoring plans, which are monitored and enforced by the Secretary of…
