Diabetics using Sanofi’s popular long-acting insulin pens have faced supply issues in recent weeks that have forced them to scout pharmacies.
The Lantus Solostar pen, which contains 3 milliliters of insulin glargine, has been in short supply for several weeks due to increased demand “due to broader market trends,” a Sanofi spokesperson told STAT. Although the problem is not technically considered a shortage by the Food and Drug Administration, patients still struggle to find the drug.
“Our priority is to ensure patients have access to their medicines,” the spokesperson said. “This is a temporary situation and is expected to improve in the coming weeks.”
