AbbVie announced its largest acquisition in more than five years, agreeing to acquire Apogee Therapeutics for approximately $10.9 billion to further strengthen the company’s leadership in immunology and expand its pipeline of therapeutics for inflammatory diseases.
The acquisition will give AbbVie access to Apogee’s lead candidate sumiloquivert (APG777), a late-stage monoclonal antibody in development for atopic dermatitis, asthma, and other inflammatory diseases. This therapy is of great interest in the industry as it potentially offers a more convenient dosing schedule compared to current standard treatments.
The deal comes as pharmaceutical companies across the industry continue to invest heavily in innovative pipeline assets ahead of upcoming patent expirations. For AbbVie, this acquisition further strengthens a business line that will generate more than $30 billion in revenue in 2025 and remains central to the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Commenting on the announcement, Robert Michael, Chairman and CEO of AbbVie, called Apogee an excellent strategic fit and highlighted the potential of the company’s pipeline to deliver significant value and address areas of high unmet patient need in inflammatory diseases.
As excitement continues to build across the dermatology community, attendees of the upcoming 10th Dermatology Drug Development Summit will have the opportunity to hear directly from three AbbVie faculty members. They will join industry leaders and innovators to discuss the latest advances shaping the future of dermatology drug development.
This acquisition underscores the industry’s continued commitment to delivering next-generation treatments for patients with chronic inflammatory diseases through significant investments, novel therapeutic approaches, and the continued advancement of immunology research.
