WASHINGTON – Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has promoted a senior health official to serve as interim surgeon general until a Senate-confirmed candidate fills the position.
In an email sent late Tuesday, Kennedy said Stephanie Haridopoulos, a family medicine physician who currently serves as senior adviser and chief of staff at the U.S. Surgeon General, is the agency’s director of medical communications. According to the email, Assistant Secretary of Health Brian Christine used a “delegation of authority” to authorize Khalidopoulos to perform the duties of Surgeon General.
“I will advance the (U.S. Surgeon General’s) public health activities, recommendations, and guidance until the next Surgeon General takes office,” Kennedy said.
