Battle for exemption from labor requirements
Patient groups are fighting to be exempted from Medicaid’s work requirements, but states’ unusually fast implementation timelines pose a headache.
Advocates for Medicaid recipients want the federal government to exempt certain patient populations from new requirements that able-bodied adult Medicaid recipients work at least 20 hours a week, attend school or participate in community service. Otherwise, it will be difficult to help people navigate the patchwork of rules from state to state.
