Primerdesign (part of Novacyt Group) is a company focused on the design, manufacturing, validation, and supply of nucleic acid extraction and real-time PCR kits. Origin Sciences (Origin) is a company pioneering the detection and diagnosis of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases with an unprecedented focus on a unique biological sample: rectal mucus. today announced a strategic partnership to create a new protocol to optimize DNA extraction from novel rectal mucosal samples. Custom workflows can help extract molecular insights from these challenging sample types and improve diagnostic utility in gut health conditions.

Origin’s patented and extensively tested medical device OriCol™ enables reliable, rapid, and minimally invasive rectal mucus sample collection, meeting the urgent need for accurate and affordable rectal mucus samples. in vitro Diagnosis of colorectal cancer and advanced adenoma. The functionality and performance of these testing applications is determined by the quality and efficiency of material recovery from biological samples. Primerdesign offers custom assay development capabilities and high-quality nucleic acid extraction solutions as part of the exsig® Mag series. Together, they developed an innovative, robust, and reproducible sample collection and nucleic acid extraction workflow that demonstrates consistent performance and high DNA yield from rectal mucus samples.

Until now, sampling methods have often relied on stool or blood, limiting the ability to investigate gut health and disease. Rectal mucus contains cells and molecular signals released from the lining of the entire colon. This provides a diverse and consistent biological specimen for representative gastrointestinal testing that is uniquely suited to detect early signs of gastrointestinal disease, monitor residual disease, select treatments, and monitor recurrence.

Dr. Joe Mason, CSO at Novacyt, said: “Origin is helping to transform early detection, disease management, and patient outcomes around the world by unlocking the diagnostic potential of rectal mucus. The performance of these testing applications depends on the effectiveness of genetic material recovery. We are proud of our reputation for excellence in DNA development and nucleic acid extraction. Our collaboration with Origin has resulted in a highly efficient, custom DNA extraction workflow that helps speed screening and diagnosis of colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal diseases.”

We are pleased to partner with Primerdesign’s expertise in high-quality custom DNA extraction from rectal mucus samples to deliver a highly scalable, bespoke nucleic acid extraction system that outperforms all commercially available alternatives evaluated.

Extracting high-quality DNA data from samples can help detect gastrointestinal diseases at an early stage, saving lives, time, and money. ”

Dr. Daniel Wise, CSO, Origin Sciences
