Hims & Hers has launched an artificial intelligence agent embedded in its platform to help interpret biomarker test results and provide users with personalized insights about their health. The company launched a direct-to-consumer clinical testing program for health biomarker testing in November. The new agent AI, Labs AI, is available to some customers in beta testing and will be rolled out to all Labs customers over time, the company announced Thursday. As part of its strategy to expand into prevention and health screening, Hims & Hers’ Labs is offering access to 130 biomarker tests across 10 health areas including heart…
Researchers led by Helmholtz Munich’s metabolic expert Professor Timo D. Müller have developed a new strategy to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes. Their approach uses specially designed hybrid molecules that utilize the well-known GLP-1/GIP signaling pathway as a type of entry point into cells. Once in the body, it delivers additional metabolic compounds directly to where they are needed. In clinical tests, mice treated with the compound ate less, lost more weight, and showed better blood sugar control than mice treated with the standard comparison treatment. The results of this study were published in a journal as a preclinical…
Cranberry juice may help extend the life of a major urinary tract infection antibiotic by reprogramming the way bacteria absorb fosfomycin and develop resistance. Study: Cranberry juice enhances the susceptibility of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains to fosfomycin and reduces the development of spontaneous resistance. Image credit: New Africa/Shutterstock.com In a recent study published in Applied and environmental microbiologyResearchers have shown that cranberry juice (CJ) enhances the antibacterial activity of fosfomycin (FOS) and reduces the development of resistance in uropathogenic diseases. Escherichia coli (UPEC). Rising UTI resistance accelerates search for alternative treatments UPEC is the main causative agent of urinary…
Insulet CEO details ‘Scrubs’ device promotion wins by increasing awareness and educational motivation
Insulet has always been a strong leader in the medical technology industry when it comes to marketing strategy. And this diabetes equipment maker has no intention of resting on its laurels. Elucidating the hidden effects of lithium on Alzheimer’s disease at the cellular level
Lithium salts have shown promise in treating Alzheimer’s disease by preventing certain proteins in the brain from clumping together, but how they affect cells on a broader scale is largely unknown. Recent research published in journals Biomedicine and pharmacotherapy The researchers found that lithium chloride alters multiple cellular pathways beyond its primary targets, altering the activity of various enzymes and structural proteins associated with dementia. These results suggest that changing the type of lithium used in treatment may improve outcomes for patients experiencing memory loss and cognitive decline. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and is characterized…
new research in psycho journal We introduce and examine a psychological concept called aversophobia, defined as an intense fear of losing honor or being labeled shameless. Aversive phobias are culturally specific in their origins and manifest through intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, emotional agitation, and compulsive obedience to social norms tied to moral reputation and family dignity. Investigators developed the Amophobia Scale (AtiPhoS), a 15-item tool designed to measure this specific fear across four dimensions: fear of being considered shameless, fear of violating social norms, fear of public judgment, and fear of losing self-esteem and honor. Researchers found that aversive phobia was…
Nature-based group activities can reduce feelings of loneliness, improve sleep and cognition, and increase a sense of connection to nature in older adults living in care homes. This nature-focused activity, which included field trips and interaction with the natural world, promoted well-being and health through peer support and activity content. Over a period of just nine weeks, weekly group activities have already been shown to reduce feelings of loneliness in study subjects, improve sleep and memory, and improve their sense of connection to nature. Our research also highlighted the need for older people in care homes to visit outdoor environments…

Tests aimed at pushing the limits of single-cell DNA sequencing have revealed something even more surprising. Microbes living in a pond in Oxford University Park appear to be using genetic code in a way scientists have never seen before. Dr. Jamie McGowan, a postdoctoral researcher at the Earlham Institute, was studying the genomes of protists from freshwater. The goal was realistic. The researchers wanted to test a DNA sequencing pipeline that could process very small amounts of DNA, including DNA from single cells. Instead, the team discovered unexpected genetic outliers. Organisms identified as: oligohymenophoria sp. PL0344 was found to be…
