Atelix, a biotechnology company revolutionizing cell preservation and biological transport with pioneering hydrogel encapsulation technology, today announced the launch of STORganoid™, a room-temperature preservation solution for organoids and spheroids. This product allows complex 3D cell models to be stored and shipped for long periods of time without compromising viability or reproducibility.

New Approach Methodology (NAM) is increasingly adopted as regulatory support increases. However, reliable transportation and access of human-relevant 3D cell models remains a major barrier. These complex systems are fragile and highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations, so traditional cryopreservation and hypothermia approaches can alter their structural and functional integrity. As a result, existing storage methods limit their use to specialized laboratories and limit widespread adoption across research teams worldwide.

Atelix has developed STORganoid, which leverages proprietary hydrogel technology to allow organoids and spheroids to be stored at ambient temperature in an assayable format. This eliminates the need for complex and time-consuming culture procedures. Encapsulation within a soft hydrogel matrix stabilized cell membrane integrity, eliminating the need for cold chain logistics while maintaining viability and performance. Purpose-built products simplify handling and logistics, support the transfer of complex models between global locations, and facilitate widespread use in research and drug development.

Expanding Atelix’s portfolio of fresh biological sample storage products, STORganoid represents a scalable solution tailored to the growing organoid and cell therapy market. It supports applications across drug discovery, disease modeling and personalized medicine, while enabling new partnerships and more efficient global distribution.

We are excited to see the launch of STORganoid, which is specifically designed for the transport of fully mature, complex organoids and spheroids. STORganoid solves one of the key barriers to widespread adoption of these highly predictive cell-based models by freeing the models from the constraints of specialized laboratory environments and lengthy culture protocols. We are proud to contribute to the harmonization and accessibility of New Approaches Methodology (NAM), bringing cutting-edge science closer to real-world applications. ”
