ORGAPRED, a French-based center of excellence specializing in patient-derived tumor organoid (PDTO) research, has selected Hamamatsu Photonics France’s high-throughput 3D imaging system CYTOQUBE to support personalized oncology drug screening and therapeutic discovery. This system enables rapid multicolor analysis of PDTO, enhancing ORGAPRED’s ability to assess treatment efficacy in these models.

Supporting personalized cancer treatment research and drug discovery

ORGAPRED is an innovative center of excellence dedicated to the production of PDTO (also known as oncoid) to support personalized medicine and oncology research. Tumor-like material is generated using a patient’s tumor sample, cultured for several weeks, and distributed into 384 wells.

Plate for drug testing. The CYTOQUBE system enables rapid 3D multicolor imaging to assess PDTO viability and cell death, providing a comprehensive assessment of treatment response.

CYTOQUBE allows tumors to be analyzed in three dimensions across the entire plate, much faster than traditional imaging approaches. This allows drug responses to be compared more efficiently, supports personalized oncology research, and accelerates the identification of new effective treatment strategies. ”

    A collaboration developed over time

The relationship between Hamamatsu Photonics France and ORGAPRED began in 2021 and has progressed through scientific exchanges, conferences and technology evaluations. In March 2025, an on-site system evaluation supported ORGAPRED’s funding application and subsequent public tender process, which was awarded in December 2025.

    Proven performance benefits

During evaluation, the CYTOQUBE system demonstrated intuitive operation, simplified protocol creation, automated tumor segmentation, and clear data visualization. The system performs 3-color 3D analysis in less than 30 minutes, regardless of plate format (96, 384, or 1536 wells).

By comparison, traditional confocal microscopy workflows can take more time due to multiple Z-stack acquisitions.
