NEW YORK (AP) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into Lululemon over the possible use of harmful chemicals in its clothing. However, the activewear company says it stopped using so-called “permanent chemicals” more than two years ago.

The survey results announced on the 1st are Law firm website On Monday, there are concerns about whether Lululemon sportswear contains it. PFASor perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. These so-called “forever chemicals” are not easily broken down and can cause a variety of health problems, including kidney disease, low birth weight, and certain cancers.

The Attorney General’s Office said new research and consumer concerns raise questions about the possible presence of certain synthetic materials and compounds in Lululemon clothing. This is something shoppers might not expect given the brand’s marketing, which emphasizes wellness and sustainability, the statement said.

The Attorney General’s Office also announced that it will examine the company’s “restricted substances” list, testing procedures, and supply network practices to determine whether Lululemon’s products comply with prescribed safety standards.

“Americans should not have to worry about being deceived as they try to make healthy choices for themselves and their families,” Paxton said in a statement.

Lululemon said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press on Monday that it does not use PFAS in its products since phasing out PFAS substances as of early 2024. Lululemon said the chemical was used in durable water repellent products, which are a small portion of its product line.

“The health and safety of our guests is our top priority, and our products meet or exceed global regulatory, safety and quality standards. We require all of our vendors to be regularly tested by trusted third parties for restricted substances, including PFAS, to ensure continued compliance,” Lululemon said.

Vancouver, Canada-based Lululemon said it is aware of the investigation by the attorney general’s office and is cooperating by providing requested documents.

The investigation is the latest issue facing the company. Lululemon is searching for its CEO following the following incident: Calvin McDonald resigns in January Amid sluggish sales and quality issues. Meanwhile, Lululemon founder Chip Wilson has been an outspoken critic of the company’s direction and has advocated for a shake-up of the company’s board.

In March, Lululemon’s board appointed Chip Berg, former president and CEO of Levi Strauss & Co., to the company’s board, replacing longtime director David Mussaffar, chairman and managing partner of private equity firm Advent International.

Lululemon stock fell less than 1% in Monday trading.
